Dr. Laura Lunstrum Trevino is an Associate Professor of Information Systems in the Entering Student Experience Program. Dr. Trevino graduated from Florida State University in 1997 with her Ph.D. in Management Information Systems. Dr. Trevino’s current research interests include Diversity Issues in Academia and STEM in Business Schools. She has published in the Journal of End-User Computing, Behavior and Information Technology, the Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce, and the International Journal of E-Business Research. Dr. Trevino has also produced over 30 conference papers and book chapters and served as an Executive Editor for Foundations of Net-Enhanced Organizations by Detmar Straub. She has served as a reviewer for ICIS, AMCIS, DSI, and the National Science Foundation. Dr. Trevino teaches courses in Expert systems, Principles of Information systems, Electronic commerce, and Advanced software applications. Dr. Trevino designed and developed the first online MBA Information Systems course for the State of Texas’ MBA Online program. She has extensive experience in designing, developing, and delivering courses in an online environment. Dr. Trevino has been awarded over 25 teaching awards including student and institutional awards. In 2003 Dr. Trevino was awarded the highest teaching award given at the University of Texas at El Paso. In 2014 she was awarded the UT Regents Teaching Award from the Texas Board of Regents. Dr. Trevino works closely with the community and the local school systems by combining classroom instruction with real world projects. Dr. Trevino’s students have performed over 350 community service projects in the local area such as robot presentations at our elementary schools, web design for non-profit organizations, and training programs for K-12 teachers. Dr. Trevino also supervised over 200 hours of community service annually to various organizations through her role as Adviser to the Association of Information Technology Professionals. Dr. Trevino is a charter member of the PhD Project and the PhD Project Information Systems Doctoral Student Association. The Ph.D. Project is dedicated to increasing diversity in the classroom by encouraging African American, Hispanic American, and Native American students to pursue careers in higher education. She is a member of the prestigious Circle of Compadres and in 2014 she was inducted into the KMPG PhD Project Hall of Fame. In 2015 Dr. Trevino was appointed to the White House Initiative Committee on Hispanic Excellence in Education. She is the first tenured female Hispanic Professor in Management Information Systems in the U.S. and serves as a mentor to all Hispanic Ph.D. students in business schools across the country.
