R. Avant-Mier studied at UTEP, earned a Ph.D. at the University of Utah, and was a professor at Boston College. He authored the book, "Rock the Nation" (2010), "Cine-Mexicans: ‘Mexican’ and Latin/o Images in U.S. Movies" (2018), and the forthcoming book "All About “Queer” Cinema: An Introduction to the Cinematic Universe of Pedro Almodóvar" (in progress).<br>
